Jim Bolding, a standout football player at East Carolina, was an honored player at the collegiate level and was also known throughout the country.

A 1975 All-American selection, Bolding still holds the ECU records for interceptions in a game (3 vs. Western Carolina, 1975, shared record), season (10 in 1975) and career (22). His 10 interceptions in 1975 led the nation.

A three-time Southern Conference pick and all-state pick (1974-76), Bolding broke the Southern Conference record for career interceptions and also broke the ECU career record for most punts returned (47).
