Key Compliance Definitions

REPRESENTATIVE OF EAST CAROLINA ATHLETICS INTERESTS
(a.k.a. Athletics Representative, Representative, Booster)

Individuals:
1. Who have participated in promoting the East Carolina athletics program and/or;
2. Who are members of an agency or organization that promotes the ECU athletics program; who have made donations to the ECU athletics program, an athletics booster organization, alumni association or foundation and/or;
3. Who have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENT ATHLETE
(a.k.a.. PSA, prospect, recruit)

A student who has started classes in the ninth grade or prior to starting ninth grade was provided benefits by an institution. An individual remains a prospective student athlete until that person begins attending college classes or official practice, even if the individual has signed a National Letter of Intent and Grant-in-Aid offer.

RECRUITING
The solicitation (in person, in writing or by telephone) of a prospect or the prospect's family for the purpose of securing the prospect's enrollment and ultimate participation in the institution's athletics program. Active Recruiting is limited to institutional staff members. A prospect is "recruited" if the institution:

Provides the prospect with an official (paid) visit to campus, or arranges an in-person off-campus encounter with the prospect or the prospect's parents, or Initiates a telephone conversation on more than one occasion.
